In a video gradually making the rounds on the internet, a lecturer at the Imo State University identified as Dr Desmond Izuwanne of the department of Medical Laboratory Science, is currently the recipient of heavy social media backlash as he was captured physically assaulting a pregnant student in a lecture theater.
In the video, the lecturer had confronted the student for failing to wear “her uniform” and instead turned up at the lecture hall in mufti. The pregnant student who had tried to explain to the lecturer that she had just returned from the hospital, was rudely hushed and received multiple slaps from him. The lecturer asked her to “kneel down” afterwards.

According to various reports from students of the Imo State University, Dr Desmond Izuwanne was well known for the frequent humiliating and debasing treatment given to his students. An older video capturing students who had been asked to crawl around a corridor by the lecturer has also surfaced on the internet.

Nigerians have reacted strongly to the video of the abusive lecturer with many demanding that the management of the Imo State University commences immediate enquiry into the Dr Izuwanne’s conduct as well as give appropriate sanctions.
